Elevated Horror | Mocktail
“
It’s not just some schlocky, cheeseball nonsense with wall-to-wall jump scares.”
I love the creation process for all of my cocktails and mocktails, but this one took the longest to figure out. However, once I had it, I was so excited. Like most of my drinks, I usually try to find a person or a scene to pair with, and this one, I knew I had to do something with Tara’s phone call. As I mentioned in our Scream 5 episode, I felt particularly called out when Ghostface was going through his usual questioning, and Tara popped off with her preference for “elevated horror.” I loved it because I prefer “elevated” horror, too! Don’t get me wrong - nothing beats watching Halloween on Halloween and Friday the 13th on a hot summer night. However, I love dissecting horror and discussing all the nuances jam-packed inside the film and the message the filmmakers were trying to convey. In fact, The Babadook was one of the first films that really got me into horror like this. Now of course, as all seasoned horror-lovers know. Almost every horror movie has a deeper message. So, while it took me a few years to mature and realize this, most horror is pretty elevated. But alas, Tara will get there too :)
So, going back to this scene, I wanted an incredibly hip mocktail in an elevated glass but in bright green and black to represent the not-so-elevated-level Stab (Scream) Franchise because we do need to chill about taking ourselves so seriously.
Outside of the drink itself, which isn’t super complex in crafting (mostly juices), I wanted some things to tie back to my original Scream drinks. So the black stripe is actually caro syrup (Just like what they used in Carrie) and activated charcoal.
It’s crisp, earthy, and complex in flavor because, duh. It pairs perfectly with Scream and any late-night horror movie discussion. Oh, and, of course, our Scream EP.
