31 Days of Halloween

Are we feeling extra spooky this year, or do we want more family fun movies? How about both?

Karissa and I got you covered with our 31 Days of Scary Movies and Halloween weekends filled with family-friendly, non-scary movies!

Want to understand the thought process behind the Scary Movie list? Overall, I kept the most obvious, and popular Halloween films to the weekends and Halloween week. I tried to tuck in the less obvious films during the week so it would be easier to skip.

  • October 1 - Halloween - I actually usually watch the Wolfman or Addams family to start off October, but with the assignment of a list entirely of scary Halloween movies, I had to start with Halloween!

  • October 2 - Poltergeist - While doing my research, I found that Poltergeist is set in fall close to Halloween! It’s a great classic!

  • October 3 - The VVitch - The VVitch has such wonderful fall vibes and is about a witch. It’s a Halloween film :)

  • October 4 - Nightmare on Elm Street - Freddy is my favorite, sorry Michael, and had to fill in some gaps. I don’t necessarily see this as a Halloween film, but felt it semi-fit

  • October 5 - The Morticians Collection - A classic Halloween anthology, that is really strong! I highly recommend getting Shudder, or at least the free trial, for Halloween week.

  • October 6 - Night of the Demons - A party in a funeral parlor on Halloween night that turns to evil? Yes, please!

  • October 7 - Night of the Living Dead - They’re coming for you, Barbara! One of the first horror movies to feature a Black lead who doesn’t become a victim. I highly recommend this film.

  • October 8 - Tales of Halloween - You’re going to see a lot of anthologies, and I think I picked some great ones! The Weak and the Wicked is my favorite.

  • October 9 - Evil Dead - Another staple movie, and was released around Halloween 1981

  • October 10 - Ginger Snaps - Coming of age tale with two sisters dealing with one being bitten by a werewolf

  • October 11 - Creepshow - I might need to make a drinking game with all the anthologies I am giving you all, but I mean can you blame me?

  • October 12 - Creepshow II - Another anthology! Take a shot.

  • October 13 - Halloween III - You won’t see Michael in this one. A cult classic and a lot of Halloween pop culture comes from this film.

  • October 14 - Lords of Salem - Scott and I love Rob Zombie, and this one is so underrated

  • October 15 - Hell House LLC - Obsessed with this film. Found footage haunted house, count me in!

  • October 16 - Fright Night - Horror junkie meets a vampire, what is the worst that can happen?

  • October 17 - Children of the Corn - I dare you to watch this when the kids are asleep and try not to get paranoid that they might want to kill you

  • October 18 - The Blair Witch Project - Forest witch + curse + found footage = great movie. Marketing did such a good job on this film, people actually thought the actors died.

  • October 19 - Hush - Okay, so this is not a Halloween film, but I get fall vibes from it. It is also fun, so give me this one.

  • October 20 - Pumpkin Head - Reckless teens kill a child, father of the child goes to a witch for revenge. Vengeance creates this monster.

  • October 21 - American Werewolf in London - Another not Halloween film, but I went to a Halloween party when I was getting my credentials and the host had this playing, and it created the coolest vibe

  • October 22 - The Houses October Built - There are so many found-footage Haunted House films, but this one and Hell House LLC are my top two.

  • October 23 - Trick ‘R’ Treat - Take another shot. Probably the best Halloween anthology you will ever see with one of the largest cult followings I have ever seen for a horror anthology film

  • October 24 - Haunt - This came out last year and I love it, the ending was a bit meh, but I still will watch it this year

  • October 25 - The Changeling - Another film that during research I found that it’s placed during fall time.

  • October 26 - Hell Fest - As someone who has always wanted to attend a full amusement park Halloween night (but can’t afford it) this will do

  • October 27 - Scream - Staple Halloween film, next.

  • October 28 - The Curse of Frankenstein - I felt the list needed more of the classic monsters without bringing in Monster Squad (I am sorry I hate that film, don’t hate me)

  • October 29 - The Lost Boys - Even if you haven’t been to the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, this movie is a cult classic for a reason. We watch this ever year

  • October 30 - Halloween (20108) - I actually love this one. Laurie Strode is so badass in this movie.

  • October 31 - Halloween Kills - Am I putting a lot of faith in Halloween Kills being good? Yes. Will my Halloween night feel off if it’s terrible? I mean no, it’s still Halloween. So cheers, ghouls! I hope you all had a wonderful October and enjoyed this list!
