Icy Imitator | Mocktail

I wonder what lurks inside the ice. Hopefully, it is something that is meant to be let out

I don’t know if you all remember that around 2020, the polar ice caps were also starting to melt. I work at a medical school, and my direct supervisor is an Immunologist, she was INCREDIBLY concerned with some of the viruses that could pop up due to them being thawed. As you know from John Carpenter’s The Thing, that’s exactly how we got…the Thing.

Being inspired by that, I wanted to do something cool with melting an ice cube. Years ago, Scott and I went to a bar that had the coolest cocktail, with an ice rose in the center of the cocktail, and as it melted, it would change your drink. Like most bars and restaurants, it did unfortunately close a year after we went. However, I am still so inspired, and I wanted to do something along that same inspiration.

Originally, this was going to be the cocktail for our The Thing Episode over on Slasher & the Final Girls, but after a while, I felt that this would be a much better mocktail. Serendipity does a Frozen Hot Chocolate, and I also wanted to pull inspiration from there. So, building it all together, you are going to start on your ice block first, and I can’t have a good horror cocktail without “blood” and black. So, I made my chocolate portion black by using black cocoa powder. This is a step you can absolutely skip, as it does change the flavor a bit, giving it a slight oreo taste (because they use black cocoa powder!).

Make your chocolate liquid as concentrated as you see fit since the first sips of this will be the creamy peppermint portion of the drink, and it won't start tasting like chocolate until you get the ice to melt. I think it’s a lot of fun and gives you so much room to explore different ways to mess with ice!

If you try this, please let me know!
